Roebuck Bay is attracting increasing attention, with the RBWG’s regular column ‘On the Bay’ in the local paper.  Minister Joe Ludwig focused on Roebuck Bay too, with a tour of the Rangelands NRM funded project in June this year. The RBWG’s current project is aimed at reducing nutrients and sediments entering the Bay through Broome’s drains, from seepage and run-off of wastewater and grey water, septic overflows and leakage, fertilisers and swimming pool discharge.  These nutrients and sediments are triggers for blue green blooms of Lyngbya which have been worsening in recent years.  The most inspiring story from 2011 however, is from Roebuck Primary.  The upper school students under the guidance of Science teacher Anthony Collopy, picked up 83 kilos of rubbish from a drain beside their school.  Just think what is going into Roebuck Bay…  follow these young people’s lead and Keep Our Remarkable Bay Clean!
